L3Harris Technologies has received a USD 90 million (EUR 83.3 million) follow-on, sole-source contract from US Space Force Space Systems Command to further advance US space domain awareness (SDA), the company announced on 19 March 2025.

The Space Force selected L3Harris to develop, integrate and deliver a package of astrometric tools that will increase the capability of the Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System (ATLAS), which integrates all SDA, space command-and-control (C2), intelligence, operational and system readiness-relevant data to help drive course-of-action development and decisions. This new continuation contract will modernise C2 by increasing the speed, accuracy and relevancy in tracking satellites and space debris.

“We recognise space domain awareness is critical to the Space Force and is essential to defending vital national interests,” Ed Zoiss, president of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris, was quoted as saying in a company press release. “Our work on the ATLAS programme will enhance space operations and will help prevent adversaries from disrupting, degrading and destroying US space capabilities.”

The ATLAS modernisation will improve the Space Force’s ability to avoid operational surprise and ensure warfighters can quickly and accurately respond to emerging anti-satellite threats

SDA is a top priority for the US Department of Defense as potential adversaries ramp up their capabilities to disrupt US and allied space operations.

Through programmes like the Advanced Tracking & Launch Analysis System (ATLAS), L3Harris is helping to ensure the United States and its allies remain dominant in the space domain and can track and respond to anti-satellite threats. (Image: L3Harris)
