The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Poland of AIM-120D Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) and related elements, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 29 April 2025.

The proposed FMS, which is worth an estimated USD 1.33 billion (EUR 1.18 billion), has been passed to the US Congress for final approval.

Poland has requested to buy 400 AIM-120D3 AMRAAMs; 16 AIM-120D3 AMRAAM guidance sections, including either Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Modules or M-Code; and one AIM-120 AMRAAM Instrumented Test Vehicle.

Also included in the package are various non-Major Defense Equipment items; spare and repair parts; technical documentation; and various aspects of engineering, technical, logistics and programme support.

“The proposed sale will improve Poland’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing air-to-air defense to protect Polish and allied forces in transition or combat and significantly improve the Polish contribution to NATO requirements,” the DSCA stated.

Poland already has AMRAAMs in its inventory, which are used to arm the Polish Air Force’s current fleet of F-16C/Ds and will in future arm its fleet of F-35A Joint Strike Fighters.

The principal contractor for the Polish AMRAAM FMS will be RTX Corporation out of its facilities in Tucson, Arizona.
