Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has been awarded a USD 240.9 million (EUR 205 million) firm-fixed-price contract by the US government for Lot Two production of Joint Strike Missiles (JSMs) for the US Air Force (USAF), the US Department of War announced on 12 December 2025.

The contract provides for the purchase of all-up rounds with containers, test hardware, and support items.

The production will be performed at Kongsberg’s facilities in Norway and is expected to be completed by 30 November 2028.

The first production lot of JSMs for the USAF was ordered in May 2024, with deliveries of these expected in 2026.

JSMs will give the USAF’s F-35A Joint Strike Fighters a stand-off capability against targets on both land and sea. Although 4 m long, they can still be carried inside the internal weapons bay of the F-35, allowing the aircraft to retain its stealth capabilities.

JSMs employ what Kongsberg states is “a highly accurate navigation system and low-altitude flight profile”, using automatic target recognition supported by an advanced imaging infrared seeker. They have a range in excess of 350 km.
