Saab announced a brace of radar orders from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) towards the end of 2025.
On 22 December the company announced that it had received an order from the FMV for a number of Arthur artillery-locating radars, including 15 years of support, for the Swedish armed forces. The value of this order is approximately SEK 1.1 billion (EUR 100 million), with deliveries to take place in 2027.
The order is for the latest version of the Arthur system, which is able to warn of incoming indirect fire from a range of up to 100 km, and also covers Saab integrating the radars onto Swedish vehicles.
Then, on 23 December, Saab announced that it has signed a framework agreement with the FMV in relation to the Giraffe 1X compact radar system and has received an order within that agreement. The value of the order is around SEK 650 million, with deliveries starting immediately.
The framework agreement covers the Giraffe 1X for use by various arms of the Swedish armed forces. The first call-off order includes a Giraffe 1X system in a Compact Radar Module (CRM) configuration, which enables fast and easy installation on most platforms.
The Giraffe 1X is a compact, high-performing 3D radar that can be used for air defence, counter unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) missions, protection of buildings and sites, and marine applications, being mountable on most types of naval vessel. The system is software based and can be continuously upgraded to meet the latest threats.
