Essential protective components for the armoured cab of the new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) A2 will be supplied by Plasan North America, the Israel-based protection specialist announced on 17 July 2023.

In a USD 300 M (EUR 267.8 M) contract AM General, which has been contracted since February 2023 to manufacture up to 20,682 JLTV A2s, has agreed with Plasan to supply the protection components.

According to Plasan, the company will supply the main subcomponents of the armoured cabin over the next five years. Plasan did not comment on the level of protection achieved. To execute the order Plasan North America expects to hire 170 highly specialised skilled workers over the next two years.

Plasan had already supplied protective elements for the production of the JLTV by Oshkosh since 2015, according to the company: about one fifth of the volume now agreed. Oshkosh had received several production orders following the development of the vehicle and has manufactured about half of the approximately 50,000 JLTVs envisaged.

AM General has been contracted to produce the second half of the JLTVs with a potential order value of up to USD 8.7 Bn. The agreed timeframe is five years with the possibility of an extension by up to a further five years.
