UK underwater and CBRN defence system provider Avon Protection announced on 15 January 2024 that it has been selected by the German Navy to supply its Multi-Role Rebreather for military diving operations. The chosen Avon rebreather will provide the German Navy with enhanced, safety, training and operational performance.

The contract also includes ongoing technical support to ensure complete, sustained operation of the Multi-Role Rebreather’s advanced safety features and capability.

The award, which Avon stated is valued in the “multi-million Euro” range, was made following the completion of a competitive public tender process and a full test programme by the German Navy.

“We are delighted that the German Navy has selected our innovative rebreather,” Kevin Gurr, Avon Protection’s underwater systems director, was quoted as saying in a company press release. “This represents a significant award for Avon Protection and the military diving personnel who will benefit from the cutting-edge technologies and enhanced operability it will bring them.”

“Germany now joins fellow NATO nations and a growing number of additional global military users that rely on Avon Protection’s underwater product portfolio,” the company stated.
