KNDS France has been demonstrating the long-range firing capabilities of its 155 mm CAESAR 8×8 self-propelled howitzer (SPH) in Poland.
Using KNDS Ammo complete rounds, a series of shots were performed with the CAESAR 8×8 SPH at the Ustka firing range in Poland in late September 2024 that achieved ranges beyond 42 km, the company noted, adding that these long-range shots “highlight KNDS’ technical expertise in cannon/ammunition pairing to optimise range, precision and terminal efficiency”.
KNDS views Poland as an essential partner for future ammunition production capabilities at a European level, with the aim of capitalising on Poland’s already-strong defence-industrial assets. The company is thus offering its expertise in 155 mm shells, propellant, fuzes and primers in support of local 155 mm ammunition production development.
KNDS Ammo rounds have been “vindicated in Ukraine for their effectiveness and accuracy”, the company stated, having being been successfully used with a large range of 155 mm/52 calibre self-propelled howitzers, including the PzH 2000, K9 Thunder and Archer systems.
More than 600 CAESAR SPHs have been delivered or are in production, KNDS noted, alongside a comprehensive range of 155 mm ammunition widely used on a diverse set of howitzers in NATO service.
“The artillery solutions offered by KNDS are the most combat proven, and have demonstrated both their relevance and performance in high-intensity operations,” KNDS stated in its press release, adding that the company “is thus confident in its capability to support Polish artillery ammunition development programmes, with the ultimate aim of strengthening Europe’s Eastern flank and overall resilience”.
