The US State Department has approved a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Israel of roughly half a billion dollars-worth of Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits as the country looks to replenish its munitions stock in light of Israeli Air Force combat operations over both Gaza and Iran.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced the approval on 30 June 2025, noting that the package, which has been passed to the US Congress for final approval, is worth an estimated USD 510 million (EUR 433 million).

Israel has requested to buy 3,845 KMU-558B/B JDAM guidance kits for the BLU-109 bomb body and 3,280 KMU-572 F/B JDAM guidance kits for the MK 82 bomb body. Various aspects of engineering, logistics, technical and programme support are also included in the package.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives,” the DSCA stated, adding that the proposed sale “will enhance Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving its ability to defend Israel’s borders, vital infrastructure, and population centers”.

While the DSCA noted that the principal contractor for the FMS would be Boeing, out of its facilities in St Charles, Missouri, it added that part of the Israeli JDAM guidance kit requirement may be transferred from US government stock.
