ELT Group and Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced on 15 February 2024 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand the knowledge of managing the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The MoU was signed by Dr Ebrahim Al Hajri, senior vice‐president for support services at Khalifa University, and Paolo Izzo, senior vice‐president and chief sales officer at ELT Group. Its main objectives relate to collaboration in the areas of academic research and teaching, in accordance with Khalifa University’s mandate, in the field of EMS applications, with a view to enhancing EMS skills and knowledge at Khalifa University and within the UAE. The Centre of Excellence for Electro-Magnetic Spectrum Applications will be a digital laboratory where the latest generation of EMS equipment is simulated, allowing Khalifa University students to apply it to their studies.

Dr Al Hajri, who is an associate professor of mechanical and nuclear engineering at Khalifa University, was quoted in an ELT Group press release as saying, “We are delighted to partner with the ELT Group in establishing the Centre of Excellence for Electro-Magnetic Spectrum Applications at Khalifa University. Khalifa University, within its faculty, has considerable specialist experience in this area. We believe this MoU will pave the way further to expand our activities and associated programmes, and develop our laboratory capabilities through state-of-the-art equipment available to students and researchers.”

Enzo Benigni, president and CEO of ELT Group, was quoted as saying, “It is my pleasure [for us] to sign this memorandum of understanding with Khalifa University of Science and Technology in order to establish a Centre of Excellence for Electro-Magnetic Spectrum Applications. I’m deeply impressed by this exceptional establishment in Abu Dhabi, distinguished by its world-class facilities. Its firm commitment to innovation is pivotal in transforming both Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates into leading innovation hubs of ingenuity and progress.

“The signature of memorandum of understanding is a concrete sign of our intent to impart our 70 years of experience to new generations of Emirati engineers,” Benigni added. “Khalifa University students will have access to a digital laboratory gymnasium where the latest generation of electromagnetic spectrum equipment are simulated, enabling them to excel in the marketplace related to EMS applications, with advanced academic and practical certification paths.”
