The production ramp-up of MBDA’s Enforcer manportable land combat missiles, known as the Enforcer Production Increase Campaign (EPIC), has been proposed for funding by the European Commission as part of its Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP) programme, MBDA reported on 21 March 2024.

The EPIC project aims to increase Enforcer production significantly and thus will contribute to the further enlargement of the series production of Enforcer missiles at MBDA in Schrobenhausen, Germany, and at MBDA partner companies in Europe.

The Enforcer land combat missile entered serial production at the end of 2023 after Germany placed an order for the weapon in December 2020.

The ASAP programme, meanwhile, is a direct response to the European Council’s call in March 2023 to urgently deliver ammunition, and missiles if requested, to Ukraine to fight the Russian invasion and to help EU member states refill their stocks after donating weapons to Ukraine by introducing targeted measures.

“The ASAP EPIC project is a great opportunity to ramp up Enforcer missile production while making it more resilient and faster,” Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA, was quoted as saying in a company press release. “Series production of the Enforcer is now well under way and the first deliveries to the German armed forces will follow this year. Also, an export contract has been concluded. We are increasing the production of Enforcer missiles to meet customer demand for the years to come.”

MBDA, as Europe’s leading missile maker, is investing heavily in its production capacities all over Europe. EU funding for EPIC would assist this effort in combination with MBDA’s other measures.

The lightweight, shoulder-launched, high-precision Enforcer is a fire-and-forget missile system with an operational range up to 2,000 m.

“Due to its low weight, day and night passive operation and enclosed space firing capability, the Enforcer provides a significant capability enhancement in mobile ground operations,” according to MBDA. “With its unique features the Enforcer provides precision effects capabilities against the threat, from lightly armoured static and moving targets, targets behind cover, and against targets at long range, also in urban environments. The modular design of the Enforcer system enables a range of future development options, including a ‘family’ of Enforcer munitions for land, air and sea applications.”
