Germany has officially joined the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) Framework Agreement, becoming the fourth country to do so after Finland, Latvia and Sweden, Patria announced on 30 January 2025.
Joining the Framework Agreement, which allows Germany to make serial procurements of CAVS vehicles based on the Patria 6×6, completes a journey that Germany began in 2022, when it signed a statement of intent regarding CAVS. Germany then joined the CAVS Technical Arrangement in 2023 and the programme’s research and development agreement in 2024.
“Patria is very pleased to see Germany moving forward towards the serial procurement phase,” stated Hugo Vanbockryck, Patria’s senior vice president for the European market, in a company press release. “The determination and steady progress of Germany taking steps within the CAVS programme has been an excellent example of modern multi-national co-operation targeting increased interoperability and the security of supply between allied nations. Together with our German teaming partners KNDS, FFG and JWT, we are ready to set up local production with a rapid time scale.”
Within the CAVS programme the 6×6 armoured vehicle system development is led by Patria, but the vast majority of ordered vehicles are supplied by utilising the member nations’ local industrial capabilities, with every new nation inherently reinforcing the security of supply for the whole collaborative programme.
Patria has already received orders for over 800 Patria 6×6 vehicles and has delivered more than 200. The programme is open to European countries with similar equipment requirements by mutual consent of the participating countries.
