The Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) has ordered 150 multi-purpose Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) from Oshkosh-Defense. As the ministry announced on 24 April 2025, the official signing of the contract is planned for June. The contract for delivery of the vehicles, which is expected in 2028, also includes provisions for their maintenance.

The JLTV can be deployed in difficult terrain and under the most diverse climatic conditions, the ministry stated as the reason for the type’s selection. The vehicles are intended to equip the Mariniers Corps, which has two marine battalions with a strong infantry component.

In a statement also dated 24 April, manufacturer Oshkosh Defense named the vehicles as JLTV Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle (DXPV) variants, which are tailored to the Dutch Future Littoral All Terrain Mobility – Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV) requirement. On its website, Oshkosh emphasises not only the tactical but also the high strategic mobility of the vehicle. It can be transported in the CH-47 helicopters and C-130H transport aircraft operated by the Dutch armed forces and can also be used for amphibious operations. The vehicle’s basic protection against ballistic threats and explosions (such as with mine protection seats) can be customised as required.

“Our DXPV has a high degree of commonality with the approximately 22,000 JLTVs that have been delivered to the US Department of Defense and the more than 1,600 JLTVs produced for other NATO and allied countries that are in service now and in the future,” said Pat Williams, chief programmes officer at Oshkosh Defense.

“This high degree of commonality not only reduces the logistical burden of supporting and sustaining the DXPV, but also ensures exceptional system performance, maximises operational readiness and improves interoperability. It allows our customers to leverage an established supply chain, streamline training and simplify integration, increasing overall mission efficiency and success,” Williams added.

Since 2018 Oshkosh has delivered over 22,000 JLTVs in four basic versions, primarily to the US Army and the US Marine Corps. A further 1,600 vehicles have been delivered to NATO countries and other allies. These include Lithuania, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Mongolia, Latvia, Slovakia, Brazil, Romania and Israel. Oshkosh Defence continues to see itself as the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that can supply the JLTV directly to allied countries.

Following the award of a new US production contract to AM General for the JLTV A2, that company is expected to make its first deliveries in the coming months.
